For We Know In Part

(1 Cor 13:9 –10, 13 KJV) "For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.  {10} But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. ….  {12} For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."

This was one of those sweet revelations that seemed to come out of nowhere. I would put something together here that was truly precious as I saw it.

“ For we know in part,…… But when that which is perfect is come …”

Paul penned these powerful words within the context of the complete and the incomplete, the in-time and the timeless.  Nothing could hold more wonderful promise for a child of God. It is as the apostle wrote in Ephesians 3:20, it is beyond anything we could ask or think. It is a reflection on that which is both complete and perfect. The Greek word teleious implies both.  Our knowledge will lack nothing in its fullness or perfection.  It is difficult for the human mind to comprehend. Nevertheless, we know in our inner man this is true.

When the Scripture implies that what we know now is imperfect or incomplete, it gives room for something else as well.  Simple reason tells us that what we now know of Him is not imperfect.  Let me illustrate. If one cuts an orange in two, each half is no less an orange than before it was separated. No matter how much we may reduce the orange into bits and pieces, it remains an orange.  So when we read that what we now know of Him is imperfect, it is not referring to our knowledge of Him as imperfect, only incomplete.  How can any revelation given us by the Father of the Son be less?

I do know this!  Just knowing Him even as I do this side of eternity is awesome.  Nothing in this life compares.  And to think I only have part of the orange, a part of the revelation of His fullness, His glory, His majesty, His fellowship is beyond anything I can ask or think. But isn’t it glorious to try!

Thank You Lord, for allowing us to see so much of You even in our limitations.  How grateful we are! It makes the other side far more meaningful.  Help us continue to be as the Psalmist when he penned these words.

(Ps 42:1-2 NASB) “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for Thee, O God.  {2} My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?”

And he gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ.
